When your people aren’t engaged, missed goals can often be a problem within the team. This problem can lead to issues that can splinter your business. Managers are responsible for making sure their teams feel secure and also to gain trust for the organization through their actions with their people. To help improve the feeling of confidence and morale in your group, we have a few ways to actively promote your employee morale and help bring discontent teammates back into the fold.

1. ASK FOR & GIVE FEEDBACK

Making sure your employee’s morale is up rather than down can be found merely through communicating with them. Having one on one sessions and quarterly feedback sessions with your people can show them you are listening to what they have to say while ensuring they do the same when you have feedback. Consider using an outside party to survey your teams and solicit raw and unbiased feedback to see if there is anything that is going unsaid and affecting the morale of your team.

2. GET TO KNOW YOUR TEAM

Getting comfortable with your team on a more personal basis can help build trust with your employees and show you care about them outside of just work-related activity. For example, asking them about similar interests, how their families are or if they watched their favorite teams this last weekend can all help humanize you within the organization and create a more familiar and friendly environment.

3. TRAINING AND CAREER PROGRESSION PATHING

Working with your people on an individual basis can reveal tons about their wants and needs. Many people are looking to build their careers and acquire more skills to grow their toolset. Identify what skills and paths your employees are interested in thorough discussions and utilization of feedback sessions and deliver appropriate training classes based on the desires of your people.

4. RECOGNIZE ALL SUCCESSES, NO MATTER HOW SMALL!

Celebrate ALL success! Recognizing your people is essential for showing them that you care. You should always reward a great job with praise at the very least but you can always make a big deal about a win, no matter how small.

5. FOCUS ON COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION

Making sure your people are working together as well as working with you is another way to help boost morale. Building that comradery through team building activities and fun events can help an employee see the team as more than just a job, but as more of another family!

Utilizing these tips, you can help bring your low morale employees into a new way of thinking and turn their morale around to create a new culture and environment that everyone wants to work within.
